Why do you require an in-person meeting to book?

You're not a business transaction around here; we value our relationships with our clients! I place a strong value on your comfort, since feeling comfortable translates beautifully in photographs, and part of ensuring that happens means I need to make sure we jive well with one another. Honestly, it's just like anything else—a job interview, a dating app, social media—online is a great place to start, but when it comes to really knowing someone, nothing beats face-to-face interaction!

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards, checks, and cash for both session payments and product payments. If you plan to utilize one of our payment plans, we can only accept a credit card.

Where do you stand with the LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and Disabled communities?

The best way we can summarize our feelings is this: Korey and I want everyone to feel safe, valued, and respected when they're in our presence. Diversity is beautiful and part of being human. You're welcome here with us!

How is your process different from other photographers?

The coolest part about the photography community is that no one is the same. There are photographers for every budget, style, and specialty, each with a different business model. At Lace + Fern, our focus is on quality and authenticity at every step of your experience with us! We strive to mix the ease of "modern" with the emotional attachment of "tangible." If you're a bit sentimental and enjoy holding photos in your hands or the smell of a physical book, then we're probably going to be the perfect fit! We have something called a Viewing appointment that happens once I've finished editing your session, where you get to see your images for the first time and can then purchase exactly what you value. All you have to worry about is choosing your products; let us handle the hassle of ordering and designing those products!

Still like having digital images as backup? We totally get it; it's part of that "ease of modern" idea we mentioned above. Your final images will be delivered in a digital gallery on the same day as the rest of the photography products you've ordered!

How early should we book our session with you?

The simple answer? As soon as possible! Availability can vary depending on the time of year, and if you have a very specific date you need for your session (for example, your wedding day), sooner is better. Additionally, consider what all will go into your session: do we need to book a hair and/or makeup artist for your session day? Are you planning to order all new outfits online, where you're at the mercy of shipping times to Alaska? Is the location you're interested in difficult to get to? Does the location you want require any permits in order to shoot there? The more there is going into your session, the more important it is to book earlier so we have time to prepare together.

All that being said, don't be afraid to reach out to us with last minute session requests! If I have the time, I'll do everything I can to squeeze you in; the worst that can happen is that I'll be unavailable.

Do you travel outside of Anchorage?

Absolutely! Travel between Girdwood and Wasilla is included in session prices, and travel outside of that area (including out of state) requires a custom quote

What should we do if our location requires a permit?

Many beautiful locations require permits or other specific permissions in order to access them. As laidback as Korey and I are, we don't chance it when it comes to legally photographing our clients, so we follow all rules required. Permits must be obtained by the client; please ensure you take this into account when deciding on a location, and note that both me (the photographer) and Korey (the assistant) need to be included in any permitting fees.

I found a cheaper photographer; can you match them and give me a discount?

Every photographer (and business, for that matter) has different costs associated with running their business. Because of this, we don't offer price matching; it wouldn't be fair to the clients who value us at full price, and we wouldn't be able to pay our bills to stay in business if we did. If paying one large chunk of money is your concern, we offer very flexible payment plans that can help!

How can I take advantage of a payment plan?

We offer very flexible payment plans for both sessions and photo products; all you have to do is ask! Payment plans can be created after receiving your session retainer fee. Once a payment plan is agreed upon, you'll receive automatic payment reminder emails about your invoice inside your own personal Client Portal, where you can easily pay via credit card.

How long will we have to wait to see our photos?

That depends on the session you're having with us! Generally, portraiture and boudoir will take approximately 2-4 weeks, and weddings/elopements take between 4-6 weeks. Keep in mind that this timeline can shift slightly depending on the length of the session, how many sessions I'm currently editing, and if any unforeseen emergencies arise. If anything comes up that extends turnaround time, we'll communicate that with you as soon as possible!

Can you hold our session date for us?

Your session date will officially be reserved by paying a retainer fee and signing your contract. Sessions are booked on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you have a date in mind that you're not flexible on (such as a wedding date), make sure you come prepared to book!

What are your hours?

Since the office is "by appointment only" and we're often out on photoshoots at various times of day, we don't have set office hours and office visits do need to be scheduled. However, we generally respond to emails between 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday.
