We're Live! // The (re)Launch of Lace+Fern
O. M. G. YOU GUYS!!!
I’m so excited to announce that we’re finally live! Lace + Fern Photography is officially open for business. It’s taken a few years of back-and-forth and a more than a few setbacks and delays, but here we are at last!
For those of you who are new here: Hi! I’m Jill, and I’m the owner and photographer at Lace + Fern here in Anchorage, Alaska. If you’ve been around a while, you’ll remember that my business was formerly “Jill Elizabeth Photography,” and that I took a semi-hiatus after I got engaged near the end of 2014 so I could focus on some laidback wedding planning and enjoy our extended engagement (highly recommend, BTW). After our wedding happened in 2016, my “semi-hiatus” unintentionally turned into more of a “full-hiatus.” Looking back, I now realize that I was partially burnt-out and partially confused on what route to take my business; at the time, all I knew for certain was that I didn’t want to subject any of my clients to the confusion while I figured it out! So, the hiatus needed to create Lace + Fern began in full force.
One of the questions I get is: why the name change? Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately, if you’re looking for some tea), there wasn’t any juicy reason for it. I’ve never had any business drama or abusive clients, and I didn’t screw anyone over. No bad reviews, nothing to hide from. Honestly, the boring reason for the change is that I’d outgrown Jill Elizabeth Photography, both in name and in overall style, so a complete name change seemed like the best choice in making a clean break. Also, even though I love the name I was born with, I got sick of saying my own name constantly and with redundancy (“Hi! This is Jill with Jill Elizabeth Photography…”), sooo… revamp time!
For my husband Korey and I, 2019 was simultaneously our worst year and our year of biggest changes. I’ll write more on this later, but in a nutshell, we started renting and renovating the Lace + Fern office at the tail end of June 2019, and then every projected launch date (starting with mid-September) got delayed by some major events. It was hard for us to not feel stressed, upset, and distracted; the silver lining is that it gave us time to work out some kinks in the business, and also gave us the motivation to get this shit rolling!
I’ll be sharing a fun Q&A post I’ve been working on soon! If you’re a follower of my Instagram, then you may see one of your questions listed that you contributed (thank you very much for your questions!) And if you don’t follow my Instagram… what the heck are you even doing?! Get over there! Follow along, join in the fun! We’re excited to have you!
If you’ve read this far, despite the great lack of photos to look at, then just know how much I appreciate your support, and I’m grateful you’re here for my launch at the start of a new decade! Fingers crossed we’ll have nothing but growth when we’re looking back in 10 years. Roaring 20s 2.0, here we come!
